C7 Industrial Engines Disassembly and Assembly – Flywheel Adapter – Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Start By:

Remove the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, “Electric Starter Motor – Remove and Install”.

  1. Remove bolt (1) . Insert Tooling (A) in the crankshaft. Remove bolts (1) and plate (2) from adapter group (3) .

 

  1. Remove adapter group (3) from the flywheel housing.

Note: The weight of adapter group (3) is approximately 10 kg (21 lb).

  1. If necessary, use a hammer and a punch in order to remove hub (5) from adapter group (3) .

 

  1. Use a hammer and a punch in order to remove ring gear (4) from adapter group (3) .

Installation Procedure

Note: Ring gear (4) must be installed with the chamfered side of the teeth upward. The chamfered side of the gear teeth will be facing toward the starting motor when adapter group (3) is installed.

 

  1. Raise the temperature of ring gear (4) to a maximum temperature of 316 °C (600 °F). Install ring gear (4) on adapter group (3) .

 

  1. Install hub (5) in adapter group (3) .

Note: The weight of adapter group (3) is approximately 10 kg (21 lb).

  1. Install Tooling (A) in the crankshaft.

 

  1. Position adapter group (3) on the crankshaft.

 

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (1) .

 

  1. Install plate (2) and bolts (1) . Remove Tooling (A) . Install bolt (1) in place of Tooling (A) .

 

  1. Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 120 ± 20 N·m (89 ± 15 lb ft).

End By: Install the electric starting motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, “Electric Starting Motor – Remove and Install”.
