C7 Industrial Engines Disassembly and Assembly – Exhaust Manifold – Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, “Turbocharger – Remove”.

 

 
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

 

 

  1. Remove bolts (1) , the washers, and spacers (2) .

 

  1. Remove the exhaust manifold assembly and the gaskets from the cylinder head assembly.

 

  1. Disassemble the exhaust manifold assembly into three pieces (3) , (4) , and (5) .

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply Tooling (B) when pieces (3) , (4) , and (5) are assembled into the exhaust manifold assembly.Note: Remove excess sealer from assembled joints.

 

  1. Apply Tooling (A) to bolts (1) .

 

  1. Install the new gaskets with the tabs upward. Position the gaskets and the exhaust manifold assembly on the cylinder head assembly. Install spacers (2) , the washers, and bolts (1) .

  1. If necessary, replace studs (6) . Tightened studs (6) to a torque of 35 ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft).

 

  1. Refer to the following procedure to tighten the bolts. 
    1. Tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (12) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 4 ± 1 N·m (35 ± 9 lb in).

     

    1. Tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (12) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft).

End By: Install the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, “Turbocharger – Install”.
