C-10, C-12, C-15 and C-16 Industrial Engines – E055 High Fuel Temperature Shutdown

Conditions Which Generate This Code:

System Response:

The engine will shut down after all of the conditions for “shutdown” are met.

The ET will display “No Engine Speed” in the first engine status box on any ET status screen.

The ECM will generate a EID 055 event code on the Cat Data Link. The event code will be displayed on a diagnostic screen of the Electronic Technician (ET).

The ECM will generate a SPN 174-FMI 00 event code on the J1939 Data Link. The event code may be displayed on a receiving device for the J1939 data link.

The ECM will generate a 65 flash code that will be displayed on the diagnostic lamp.

  • There may be a problem with the fuel system.

  • There may be a problem with the fuel temperature sensor.

Test Step 1. Check for Diagnostic Codes.

  1. Connect ET to the service tool connector.
  1. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. The engine should be off.
  1. Check for any active diagnostic codes or logged diagnostic codes.

Expected Result:

There should be no diagnostic codes that are present.

Results:

  • OK – Proceed to Test Step 2.

  • Not OK –

    Repair: Repair the diagnostic codes that are present. Refer to the appropriate topic in the “Troubleshooting With a Diagnostic Code” section of this manual.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem.

    STOP

Test Step 2. Perform a Check of the Fuel System.

  1. Perform a check of the fuel system. Refer to the appropriate topic in Testing and Adjusting for possible causes.

Expected Result:

There are no problems with the fuel system.

Results:

  • OK – There may be an intermittent problem.

    Repair: Monitor the operation of the engine.Repair the problem.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem.

    STOP

  • Not OK –

    Repair: Repair the problem.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem.

    STOP

Test Step 3. Check the Fuel Temperature Sensor

Perform the following diagnostic procedure. Troubleshooting, “Engine Temperature Sensor Open or Short Circuit – Test”

Results:

  • OK – STOP
