C-10, C-12, C-15 and C-16 Industrial Engines – E027 High Inlet Air Temperature Warning

Conditions Which Generate This Code:

The inlet air temperature has exceeded the trip level.

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) will not act until the engine speed is greater than 0 rpm for three minutes.

System Response:

The warning lamp will turn ON while the “Warning” is active. The ECM will log the code.

  • There may be a problem with the aftercooler.

Test Step 1. Check for Diagnostic Codes

  1. Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
  1. Place the engine control in the ON mode. The engine should be off.
  1. Check for any active diagnostic codes or logged diagnostic codes.

Expected Result:

There should be no diagnostic codes that are present.

Results:

  • OK – Proceed to Test Step 2.

  • Not OK –

    Repair: Repair the diagnostic codes that are present. Refer to the appropriate topic in the “Troubleshooting With a Diagnostic Code” section of this manual.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem.

    STOP

Test Step 2. Perform a Check of the Aftercooler

  1. Perform a check of the aftercooler. Refer to the appropriate topic in Testing and Adjusting for possible causes.

Expected Result:

There are no problems with the aftercooler.

Results:

  • OK – There may be an intermittent problem.

    Repair: Monitor the operation of the engine.Repair the problem.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem.
