Note: Apply a small amount of clean engine oil or glycerin onto the lip of seal (7). Also, apply a small amount of clean engine oil or glycerin into the bores for the O-ring seals at assembly.

(1) Diode assembly

Note: The diode assembly is required to suppress the back voltage spike that is generated when the solenoid is turned off.

(2) 4N-3890 Solenoid

Voltage rating … 24 or 32 V

Current consumption

Pull-in windings at 38.4 Volts … 39.1 Amp
Hold-in windings at 38.4 Volts … 0.58 Amp

The distance from the plunger face to the flange face

The distance after the solenoid has been energized. … 9.6 ± 0.5 mm (0.38 ± 0.02 inch)

Note: The hold in current consumption (draw) on the engine must take less than 2 Amp at shutdown.

(3) The bracket assembly must be adjusted so that the valve assembly (9) is parallel to the pipe bore within 2 degrees.

(4) 3N-7848 Spring

Length under test force … 22.86 ± 0.50 mm (0.900 ± 0.020 inch)
Test force … 4 N·m (35 lb in)
Outside diameter … 18.8 ± 0.5 mm (0.74 ± 0.02 inch)

(5) Diameter of shaft … 9.60 ± 0.03 mm (0.378 ± 0.001 inch)

Bore in the bearing … 9.80 ± 0.03 mm (0.386 ± 0.001 inch)

Note: As needed, adjust the shaft in order to change the spring tension until the hold in current consumption (draw) is less than 2 Amp at shutdown.

(6) 108-2858 Spring

Free length … 54.5 ± 0.5 mm (2.15 ± 0.02 inch)
Outside diameter … 30.36 ± 0.50 mm (1.195 ± 0.020 inch)

(7) Seal

Install the seal with the tip of the seal toward the outside, as shown.

(8) Diameter of the shaft … 15.80 ± 0.03 mm (0.622 ± 0.001 inch)

Bore in the bearings … 15.88 mm (0.625 inch)

The bore in the elbow for the bearings … 18.263 ± 0.013 mm (0.7190 ± 0.0005 inch)

(9) The valve assembly is shown in the run (open) position. When the valve is closed, a 0.08 mm (0.003 inch) feeler gauge must not fit between the valve and the bore in the pipe at any point.

(10) Distance of bearing installation below the surface of the elbow … 0.25 ± 0.25 mm (0.010 ± 0.010 inch)
