Remove Flywheel
1. Remove eight of the ten bolts (1) holding flywheel (2) to the crankshaft.
NOTE: Leave two of the bolts installed to hold the flywheel in place.
2. Install Tool (A) approximately 180 degreesapart as shown.
3. Remove the remaining two bolts (1).
4. Slide flywheel (2) along with ring gear (3) out onto Tool (A) far enough to attach a lifting sling and a suitable lifting device to the flywheel and ring gear.
5. Remove flywheel (2) and ring gear (3) from the end of the crankshaft and the flywheel housing. The weight of the flywheel and ring gear is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).
6. If necessary, remove ring gear (3) from the flywheel.
7. Remove Tool (A) from the end of the crankshaft.
Install Flywheel
1. If necessary, heat the ring gear to a maximum temperature of 204°C (400°F), and install it on the flywheel. Make sure the ring gear is against the shoulder of the flywheel and the part number is toward the engine.

NOTICE |
---|
Make sure the correct sealant is put on the bolt threads. The holes for the bolts in the crankshaft flange are drilled through so the holes are open to the oil in the engine. Leakage along the bolt threads can be the result if the correct sealant is not used. |

NOTICE |
---|
When a new flywheel is installed, check the thickness of the new flywheel at the bolt holes in relation to the thickness of the old flywheel. Install the correct length bolts so they will be fully engaged in the crankshaft flange. Bolts that are too long will make contact with the block on the back side of the crankshaft flange and pull the crankshaft back. This will cause the crankshaft thrust bearing to fail. |

2. Install Tool (A) in the end of the crankshaft approximately 180 degreesapart as shown.
3. Fasten a lifting sling and a suitable lifting device to flywheel (2) and ring gear (3). The weight of the flywheel and ring gear is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).
4. Make sure the off set hole on the flywheel, identified by dash mark (5), is aligned with dash mark (4) on the crankshaft. Put flywheel (2) and ring gear (3) in position on Tool (A). Remove the lifting sling and lifting device.
5. Put 5P-3413 Sealanton the threads of flywheel bolts (1). Install eight of the flywheel bolts. Remove Tool (A). Install the last two flywheel bolts. Tighten all the bolts to a torque of 90 ± 7 N·m (66 ± 5 lb ft).
6. Once again, make sure the off set hole on the flywheel, identified by dash mark (5) is aligned with dash mark (4) on the crankshaft.
