C7 Industrial Engines Specifications – Exhaust Manifold

Table 1
Specification for 183-6845 Exhaust Manifold Gp
Item Qty Part Specification Description
Mounting surfaces of the exhaust manifold should be clean and dry. In addition, mounting surfaces should be free of any other foreign matter.
1 4 8T-7044 Taperlock Stud Torque to 35 ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft).
3 2 183-6856 Exhaust Manifold Use the following procedure during assembly of the three-piece exhaust manifold to the cylinder head:
1. Apply a thin coat of silver/grey 2P-2333 High Temperature Sealer to the outside diameter of the male ends of the exhaust manifolds before assembly. Remove any excess sealer from the assembled joint.
2. Install the six gaskets (2) with the tab upward, as shown.
3. Before assembly, lubricate the threads and the bearing surfaces of the 12 bolts (4) with Loctite C5A Copper Anti-Seize.

Bolt tightening sequence for the exhaust manifold

Table 2
Item Qty Part Specification Description
4 4 210-7722 Bolt Use the following procedure to tighten the bolts of exhaust manifold:
1. Tighten the bolts in a numerical sequence to
4 ± 1 N·m (35 ± 9 lb in) as shown in illustration 2.
2. Again tighten the bolts in a numerical sequence to
45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft) as shown in illustration 2.
8 172-6298 Bolt
Prior to starting or running the engine, allow the sealant in the exhaust manifold joints to air dry for 24 hours.

Three-piece exhaust manifold (typical example)

Use the following procedure during assembly of the three-piece exhaust manifold to the cylinder block.

  1. Mounting surfaces should be clean, and dry. In addition, mounting surfaces should be free of any other foreign matter.

  1. Apply 2P-2333 High Temperature Sealer to the outside diameter of the male ends of the exhaust manifold. Do not apply the sealer at the tip of the male ends. Remove any excess sealer from the assembled joint.

  1. Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of bolt (1) through bolt (12) .

Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (12) to the following torque. … 4 ± 1 N·m (35 ± 9 lb in)

Tighten the bolt (1) through bolt (12) to the following torque. … 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft)

(13) Studs

(13) Tighten the four studs to the following torque. … 35 ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft)

Note: Prior to starting or running the engine, allow the sealant in the exhaust manifold joints to air dry for 24 hours.
