The following procedure is used in order to clean the NRS cooler in the event of a large accumulation of soot from the exhaust gas.
Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly for the proper procedure for removing the cooler.
Block the NRS cooler at one end. Use the 9U-7191 Plastic Cap and a hose clamp of the correct size.
Fill the NRS cooler with 269-8297 Cleaner until the cooler is filled. Refer to Table 2 for the capacities of the NRS coolers.
Capacities of the NRS Coolers | |
C9 | 2.2 L (2.25 qt) |
C13 and C27 | 2.6 L (2.75 qt) |
C15 and C18 | 4.2 L (4.5 qt) |
Allow the filled cooler to sit for 30 minutes.
Drain the 269-8297 Cleaner from the cooler.
Remove the 9U-7191 Plastic Cap and the hose clamp.
Steam the cooler from the inlet of the cooler. Soot and steam will flow from the outlet end of the cooler.
Steam the cooler from the outlet end of the cooler. Soot and steam will flow from the inlet of the cooler.
Repeat Step 6 and Step 7 until the water that is exiting the ends of the cooler is clear.
Dry the NRS cooler by blowing compressed air through each end of the cooler.
Reinstall the cooler with the procedure in the Disassembly and Assembly.
