C3.3B Tier 4 Interim and EU Stage 3A Engines for Caterpillar Built Machines – Turbocharger – Inspect

Use the following procedures in order to inspect the turbocharger and related components to verify that all components are functioning correctly.

1. Inspect the exhaust port and inlet port of the turbine housing to ensure that there are no exhaust leaks. Retighten the bolts and nuts, or replace the turbocharger gasket, if any exhaust gas leaks are found.

2. Inspect the inlet hose of the compressor cover in order to ensure that there is no air leak.

3. Check for loose connections or cracks in the suction side of the intake hose. Replace the clamps or intake hoses, if an air leak is found. Refer to Illustration 2.

4. Check the radial clearance of the compressor wheel and turbine wheel of the turbocharger. Replace the turbocharger assembly if the compressor wheel or turbine wheel contact the housing.
