Installation Procedure

Note: Refer to Specification UENR0995 "Engine Design" for non-specified engine Torque Values.

Note: Install the main bearings dry when the clearance checks are made.

Note: Install the crankshaft main bearings upper and lower halves, with the bearing tabs fitting into the notch of the crankshaft main bearing cases.

  1. Install lower half of main bearing (6) into lower cylinder block (11) .

  1. Install lower half of thrust bearing (10) . Apply Tooling (A) to main bearing (11) .

  1. Use a suitable lifting device and install crankshaft (1) into the lower cylinder block.

  1. Install two upper half thrust bearings (9) into the gear end of the crankshaft (1) .

  1. Install upper main bearing (8) into upper cylinder block (7) .

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to mating surface of lower cylinder block (6) .

  1. Use a suitable lifting device and install upper cylinder block (7) onto crankshaft (1) and lower cylinder block (6) .

  1. For the C3.3B apply clean engine oil to bolts. Install bolts (5) and torque to 138.0 ± 147.0 N·m (101.78 ± 108.42 lb ft).

  1. For the C2.6 apply clean engine oil to bolts. Install bolts (5) and torque to 128 ± 137 N·m (94 ± 101 lb ft).

  1. For the C3.3B apply engine oil to bolts. Install bolts (4) and torque to 59.0 ± 63.0 N·m (43.52 ± 46.47 lb ft).

  1. For the C2.6 apply engine oil to bolts. Install bolts (4) and torque to 49 ± 55 N·m (36 ± 41 lb ft).

  1. Install connecting rod caps (2) on crankshaft (1) and install bolts (3) . Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 69 to 73 N·m (51 to 54 lb ft).

    Note: Refer to Guideline For Reusable Parts, SEBV0544, "Engine Bearings and Crankshafts" for complete details concerning the measurement of bearing clearances.

End By:

  1. Install the front housing.
  2. Install the flywheel housing.
  3. Install the oil pan.
