C3.3B – Fuel Injection Pump – Test

Use the following tests in order to ensure that the fuel injection pump is functioning properly.

Fuel Tightness of the Fuel Pump Element

1. Remove the engine stop solenoid.

2. Remove the injection pipes.

3. Install injection nozzle (2) jetted with proper injection pressure to injection pump pressure tester (1). Refer to Illustration 1.

4. Set the speed control lever to the maximum speed position.

5. Run the starting motor in order to increase pressure of the fuel system.

6. Replace the fuel injection pump, or have the pump repaired, if the measurement is less than the allowable limit.

   Note: Do not attempt to disassemble the injection pump assembly. For repairs, contact an authorized pump service shop.

Fuel Tightness of the Delivery Valve

1. Remove the engine stop solenoid.

2. Remove the injection pipes.

3. Install a pressure tester to the fuel injection pump.

4. Install the injection nozzle jetted with the proper injection pressure to the injection pump pressure tester.

5. Run the starting motor in order to increase the pressure of the fuel system.

6. Stop the starting motor when fuel jets from the injection nozzle. Turn the flywheel by hand and raise the pressure to 18629.64152 kPa (2702 psi)

7. Turn the flywheel in the opposite direction in order to keep the plunger free. Maintain the flywheel at this position and note the amount of time taken for the pressure to drop from 18.61678 MPa (2702 psi) to 17.63840 MPa (2560 psi)

8. Replace the fuel injection pump, or have the pump repaired, if the measurement is less than the allowable limit.

   Note: Do not attempt to disassemble the injection pump assembly. For repairs, contact an authorized pump service shop.
