259D Compact Track Loader – Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician to Determine Diagnostic Codes

Perform the following to use the Caterpillar® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET) service tool to determine diagnostic codes:

  1. Connect Cat® ET to the machine.

  1. Turn the keyswitch to the RUN position.

  1. Start Cat ET.

    Cat ET will initiate communications with the machine ECMs.

    After communication has been established, Cat ET will list the ECMs.

  1. Select the desired ECM.

  1. View the list of diagnostic codes.

  1. Troubleshoot the diagnostic codes.

    See the test procedure for the specific diagnostic code.

Active Diagnostic Codes

The corrective procedures may cause new diagnostic codes to be logged. Before performing any procedure, make a list of all the active diagnostic codes. Clear the diagnostic codes as the problems that caused the diagnostic codes are corrected.

Cat ET displays the following active diagnostic code information:

  • Component identifier (CID)

  • Failure mode identifier (FMI)

  • Text description of the problem

Logged Diagnostic Codes

Cat ET displays the following logged diagnostic code information:

  • Component identifier (CID)

  • Failure mode identifier (FMI)

  • Text description of the problem

  • Number of occurrences of the problem

  • Time stamp of the first occurrence of the problem

  • Time stamp of the most recent occurrence of the problem

Cat ET logs diagnostic codes that are continuous and intermittent.

Note: Diagnostics are logged in non-volatile memory. On powerup, the ECM clears any diagnostic codes that have not been detected or active within the last 150 hours of machine operation.
