1. Check the Operation of the Cooling Fan

A. Establish communication between the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Refer to Troubleshooting, “Electronic Service Tools”, if necessary.

B. Check the value of the fan control parameters.

Cooling fan parameters Result: The parameter is not programmed to allow the fan to operate.

The ECM is not controlling the cooling fan. Refer to the troubleshooting information for the chassis in order to troubleshoot the cooling fan.

Result: The parameter is programmed to allow the fan to operate.

The ECM is controlling the cooling fan. Refer to Troubleshooting, “Cooling Fan Control – Test” in order to troubleshoot the cooling fan.

Complete the procedure in the order in which the steps are listed.

If the procedure did not correct the issue, contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC). For further assistance, your TC can confer with the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN).
